Valentine’s Day Chocolate & Wine Pairings
By DSD | February 13, 2026

What goes together better than wine & chocolate for Valentine’s Day!? Pairing the two together isn’t necessary, but it can be fun! Feel free to experiment OR use our handy guide for inspiration.

How to Pair Wine & Chocolate

As a general rule, wine should be just a tad sweeter than the chocolate to avoid having it taste bitter or sour. Chocolate tends to coat the mouth so choose fuller bodied, higher acidity wines that will hold up to the richness.

Did you know chocolate has tasting notes too? When possible, either try and match the tasting notes of the wine and chocolate OR fill in the gaps. Match a fruit forward chocolate with a fruity wine or pair a fruity wine with an earthy chocolate. Ultimately it all comes down to personal preference!

Check out our suggestions below:

Dark Chocolate…

& Chocolate Strawberry. A little sweetness will help cut through the bitterness of the chocolate. PLUS who doesn’t love chocolate covered strawberries on Valentine’s Day are a classic.

Milk Chocolate…

& Zanello Family Reserve. Notes of wild blueberry, milk chocolate, and vanilla will pair perfectly with a light and irresistibly smooth milk chocolate.

White Chocolate…

& Moscato. White chocolate requires a light & sweet white to stand up to its high sugar levels. This semi-sweet wine with subtle notes of honeysuckle is the perfect option.

Dark Chocolate Raspberry…

& Dry Rosé. Our rosé with its fruity tasting notes of strawberry, cherry, & watermelon will go wonderful with dark chocolate & raspberry (or any berry of choice).

Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter…

& Merlot Reserve. The creaminess of the peanut butter balances out the tannins & acidity while the dark chocolate brings out the hints of mocha in the wine.

Happy pairing!
